Donating your used shoes can help those in Haiti
Family Outreach Ministries International, Inc. of Marietta , GA is asking other groups to assist them to gather used shoes. We are calling all church groups, schools, scouts, clubs, associations, gyms, shoe stores, and activated citizens to gather used shoes for Family Outreach’s hurricane relief in Haiti . Several weeks ago Haiti was deluged by 4 major hurricanes washing away the future and hope of many tens of thousands. Family members, parents, children were lost leaving the bereaved to hunt for any remnant remaining of their home, crops, possessions, and livestock. For the misery of those remaining after this catastrophe, there is little Haitian government response. There is no homeowners insurance, crop insurance, no FEMA, just other neighbors in the same hopeless situation.
This tragedy is our call to service. We ask you for your old shoes and ask you to ask your neighbor for their old shoes. It’s just that easy to help relieve another?s suffering.
Because of community support, within the next few weeks, Family Outreach expects to have a full 40? container loaded with family size packages of rice containing 270,864 meals on the water en route to Port-Au-Prince , Haiti . The soy blend rice maximizes the usable protein in the grain and pumps up the flavor. This relief effort from Atlanta, GA involved coordinating the team play of several US non profit organizations, the Federal Government, US armed forces, and special consideration from the Haitian Consulate, all spearheaded by Family Outreach Ministries International Inc. This first shipment hopefully will be followed by container shipments every few weeks.
These shoes are for the shoeless children in Haiti , and for recycling. Recycling the used shoes will raise money for Family Outreach?s Relief work in Haiti, and will help to empower Haitian women with a micro business of selling used shoes in the open street markets present in most Haitian towns and villages. Please no high spike heels or tall boots.
Selling a used pair of shoes to a Haitian merchant in the USA is the beginning of job creation for many in Haiti . This all starts with a non profit such as Family Outreach to organize volunteers and to offer tax receipts for donations of used shoes. Many of the shoes are recycled into the private sector for private business. Later are sold by the dozen empowering unemployed women to start a micro shoe business in the crowded street markets present in all cities, towns, and many villages in Haiti . Many of these shoes are then taken to repair vendors who glue and sew fresh soles and heels and taken to shoe shine boys. The money raised by Family Outreach by recycling to the exporters is then used for outreach hurricane relief and to the many shoeless children needing shoes for their school uniform.
If you or your group is willing to help gather used shoes, or volunteer at our Marietta office, please contact Family Outreach President Rose Edkins at (770) 873-343
